A friend or contact on WhatsApp says they accidentally sent a verification code to your phone and asks you to forward it. That code is actually for YOUR WhatsApp account. Sharing it gives the scammer full control of your WhatsApp, which they then use to scam all your contacts.

How This Scam Works
Critical Risk — Never Share Your WhatsApp Verification Code
Your WhatsApp 6-digit verification code is the key to your account. Sharing it with anyone gives them full control of your WhatsApp. Never forward this code.
Note: This scam typically arrives via WhatsApp, not email. If you received a suspicious email, forward it to check@scam.support for a free risk assessment. For WhatsApp scams, report to the relevant agency in your country — see all reporting agencies.
A friend or contact on WhatsApp says they accidentally sent a verification code to your phone and asks you to forward it. That code is actually for YOUR WhatsApp account. Sharing it gives the scammer full control of your WhatsApp, which they then use to message all your contacts with scam requests for money or to spread the same verification code trick further.
This scam is particularly effective because the request appears to come from someone you know and trust. The friend whose account is being used has typically already been compromised through the same method, creating a chain of account takeovers.
